Cleveland is famous for its "dog pound" of slathering fans. It turns out that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has thrown them a bone. Through his charitable foundation, he made a grant to the Cleveland Police K-9 unit so that it can purchase an explosive-detection dog, dog training and a canine protective vest. This is not a new line of philanthropy. In 2006, the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation made its first grant to the police department in his hometown of Findlay, Ohio, so that it could replace a service dog killed in the line of duty. The dog pound may howl if Big Ben does well, but his donation shows that, as a native of Ohio, he doesn't completely bite the hand that fed him.
