Bethel Park hosts hearing on high school projectEdit
- Friday, February 06, 2009 By Maria Sciullo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
[[ Bethel Park School District]] directors and administrators held a required Act 34 public hearing last night to provide the public with details for a proposed $98.8 million high school project.
About 70 residents attended the meeting at Independence Middle School.
Although it's been almost 12 months since the school board voted in favor of building new as opposed to renovating the current, eight-building campus or extensively renovating it, the district is still waiting for a variance from the municipality. It has been twice denied -- the land is currently not zoned to allow for a new building or renovation that would expand the size of the current buildings by more than 25 percent -- and the matter is now in the Allegheny County court system.
A decision is expected by the end of the month, said Superintendent Thomas Knight.
Councils named Republican to fill term, July 13, 2006Edit
Council appointed Paul Martin, 50, a Republican and a newcomer to politics. He was named to a seat formerly held by a Republican.
Bethel Park interviewd candidates. There were five applicants for the 7th Ward position formerly held by Ted Levitsky, a Republican, who died in May at age 61 of a stroke two days after knee replacement surgery.
Mr. Martin will serve the rest of the year. The home rule charter in Bethel Park requires a special election in November, and the winner will serve the remaining three years of the term.
