Bus lane reopens Downtown Saturday, May 31, 2008 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The buses-only lane has been restored on Smithfield Street between the Boulevard of the Allies and Fort Pitt Boulevard, Downtown.
As a result, the special lane that runs against the direction of regular one-way traffic now extends the entire distance between Liberty Avenue and the Smithfield Street Bridge, speeding outbound bus travel.
Restoration of the contraflow lane over the last two blocks of Smithfield occurred as a result of a joint effort of the Port Auithority, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and city officials to improve bus movements in the central business district.
